Spring is in the air with the days being longer and the sun shining brighter! We are headed into spring and many exciting events are going to be happening at Gompers.
As we enter into the final quarter of this year, we will begin to make plans for the 2014-2015 school year. Our enrollment projection for Fall of 2013 is 241 students K-5, plus 35 4K students! We are pleased to inform you that Madison, as a school district, is supporting straight grade classrooms in all MMSD schools in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. This means we will continue to have an instructional design exactly as it is now, with one 4K section, 3 sections each of Kindergarten-third grade, and 2 sections each of fourth and fifth grade.
Additionally, it is very important that we have the most accurate numbers to work with for fall enrollment. If you know of any Kindergarten students who have not yet registered, or if you know of a family who has moved into the Gompers area, please have them contact the school. Also, please inform us if your child(ren) will not be attending Gompers in the fall. Once we have the most accurate numbers possible, the staff will then work as a team to create class lists for next year. Factors such as academic achievement, behavior data, and peer relationships are some of the considerations for this process. As you will see in this calendar, Pizza with the Principal this month will focus on providing information around class placement. If you are interested in learning about this process, please attend!
Parents may provide additional information in writing if there are special considerations that you would like us to be aware of when creating class lists. The letter should NOT request a specific teacher and should focus on the specific learning needs of your child. The letter or email must be received by May 1. Please remember that due to unpredictable changes in numbers, class lists are never finalized until the third Friday count in September. The district reserves the right to reduce or add teachers if there is a shift in the student population until that third Friday.
Finally, I want to share how much I continue to enjoy working with students, staff members, families and community members during my first year as the principal of Gompers. If you ever wish to contact me, know that I am available via phone, text, email or in person and am happy to discuss any concerns and/or acknowledgements that you may have. Please know that you are always welcome here at Gompers and your child’s success is benefited by your support and engagement in our school community.
Thank you for all you continue to do to make Gompers a great place to learn!
